Blogs and Bonsai's

I once owned a little bonsai tree a few years ago which I loved and was really excited about when I first bought it. It was great at first, I loved seeing the new leaves sprout. I remember how much I enjoyed trimming it and I couldn't wait for it to grow enough for me to train it into shape with wires. Sadly, my interest in it declined and I found myself watering it less and less. Eventually the moss around the base died and refused to come back to life. The leaves all slowly dropped off and before long the whole thing was dead - along with my interest. So I was never able to train the plant and experience the complete joy of growing a bonsai tree.

What is the significance of this story? Well for one, I shouldn't be trusted with bonsai's, let alone any type of plant. More importantly was my realisation that keeping a blog is much like keeping a bonsai. No matter how excited I was about this blog, or how much I loved the idea of starting one, in the end it's really my commitment that will allow me to keep it alive. From there I can sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labour. Not that blogs produce fruit. Or bonsai's. Or do they? I mean if you can make a bonsai out of any plant I'm sure you can make a bonsai fruit tree . . . er, I'm going off on a tangent now.

great article.
